The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches but to reveal to
him his own. ~Benjamin Disraeli
The Enterprise Communities (EC)
were created in 1994 as part of a $2.95 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to provide
employment services and economic opportunities for residents in census tracts with high poverty levels (35% or more). The Charlotte Enterprise Community (CEC) area covers 18 census tracts that include
over 30 neighborhoods in the Northeast, Northwest, and West geographies of the inner city.
The CEC represents a partnership between residents, non-profit agencies, city government, and private-sector organizations. The overall goals of the CEC initiative are to: move unemployed people into the workforce,
move underemployed people into higher paying careers, coordinate technical assistance for businesses, and offering job opportunities
for EC residents
Mission Statement
To move the
unemployed into jobs and the underemployed into better paying jobs in an effort to achieve self-sufficiency.
